Another frosty week but another week of solid winter miles put in by the Midleton CTC Members, with a very busy weekend.
The Juveniles Set out on Saturday for a 50KM spin via Castlemartyr, Shanagarry, East ferry With Ken Savage, Dave McCarhty and Jonny Finn leading the group on the Road while the recovering Tim Mahony followed to keep a careful coaching eye on the group from the Team car with the ever present Michael Broderick. Even in these Winter months the Juveniles are really getting in the miles and it will be a promising season for them.
Saturday saw a group of Tony Fitzgerald, Derry Cadogan and Barry Mcmahon take a trip up the Vee, never an easy spin. As a just reward they did treat themself to a Jam and cream scone in Lismore on the way home.
The beginners group contiues to go to from strength to strength with the group completing a 65km spin at an average pace of over 25kmph. This group is really progressing well now and a the group are also getting in some very impressive mid week km's as well. Well done all. A quick report here from Alan Harty:
We headed to the sunny south east 60 odd km and lucky for us the fog cleared for some beautiful blue skies. Great bunch of people and some really strong riders. Future is bright for MTC. We were all getting on great until Mags made the call to have the coffee stop back in Youghal!!! In my own defence it was Colums call. Your know these kerry men. Will travel miles to save a few cent. Just waiting on the other photos. Gary wants to check them to make sure I got his good side!!! Big thank you to Colum , Gary, Fergus and Andrew for helping out this morning.
The Regular Sunday coffee Spin did a very chilly spin to Dungarvan with around 107kms on the clock with 800m of climbing. A special shoutout to Derry Cadogan who did some extra on his own to take his days spin over 150km's with over 1171m of climbing and also to Barry Mcmahon who both did the previous days spin up the vee.
It has been noted that Calum Lynch may indeed believe himself to be Mark Cavendish, and it was noted he tucked himself nicely at the back all day and made a bid for a sprint at the finish only to be caught in traffic. Front of the group for the first 60km next week now Calum!!!
Sunday was also the Donal Crowley Memorial Sportif in Blarney. Well known for its very high pace and it didn't disapoint. A small group from Midleton CTC headed down and put in a strong showing Leonard O'sullivan,myself, Lloyd Weymouth, Shane Fuller, Will Rock, Shane Fuller and Daithi Reilly all started off together with Lloyd weymouth, Shane Fuller, Will Rock, Shane Fuller and Daithi Reilly Pushing it home in the front group with average speeds over 31.5kmph on a really hilly course. This event is a good judge for the season and was used by a lot of racers to judge their form. Judging on the performance of Lloyd, Shane and Will this will be a great season and I think Daithi might be roped in to racing after that impressive performance. We won't mention what happened to me but if you watch the GCN top 10 excuses video there's at least 4 of those apply!

This week with the Lanzarote Trip fast approaching a secret commitee has begun to issue penalty points for suspect behaviour. Any body attending the Lanzorote trip who reaches 10 penalty points by the time they have checked in will face approriate punishment.
The first of these penalty points this week go to James Roche and Dave Power.
Aka "the gucci's" Who both this week receive 3 penalty points each for "marginal behaviour".
Grown men in lycra taking pictures of each other simultaneously is way too much mutual admiration.
This is just strange lads!
